About Me: A Lifelong Love of Music and a Journey of Rediscovery
Music has always had a place in my life. I grew up surrounded by it — my mother was a church organist, and my sister and I sang in church choirs. Those early Sundays filled with hymns and harmony shaped how I heard and felt music. In junior high, I joined the school choir, not because I had big ambitions, but because I loved how singing made me feel — connected, expressive, and alive.
I was never one to pick up an instrument back then. It just wasn’t my thing at the time. But lately, I’ve felt that pull again — the desire not just to listen, but to play. So I’ve started to teach myself acoustic guitar and keyboard. Slowly but surely, I’m learning a few chords, a few progressions, and gaining a whole new appreciation for the effort behind the songs I’ve always loved.
From Vinyl to Streaming: My Musical Timeline
My first album? I’m pretty sure it was a Beatles record, played on an old phonograph with a slightly wobbly tone arm. From there, my listening journey moved through the eras — from vinyl to cassette tapes, to CDs, and eventually digital music. Funny enough, I somehow skipped the 8-track phase entirely.
Through all those formats, one thing never changed — the feeling that music could transport me. Whether it was blasting a favorite tune in the car, or putting on headphones to escape for a while, music has been the backdrop to countless moments of my life.
My Taste in Tunes
I’ve always had pretty broad musical tastes. While I can handle almost any genre for a while, I tend to gravitate toward 80s and 90s music — that classic Top 40 mix of rock, pop, R&B, and country that defined those decades. Heavy metal was never really my scene, but give me a good guitar riff, a soulful voice, or a catchy melody, and I’m all in.
Some of my favorite groups over the years have included Journey, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chicago, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Fleetwood Mac, and Little Big Town. I’ve also been drawn to powerful solo voices — Whitney Houston, Adele, Linda Ronstadt, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Selena, Garth Brooks, and Shakira are among the artists that have left a lasting impression. And when it comes to pure vocal talent, I can’t help but admire the stunning harmonies of groups like IL Divo and Celtic Woman.
Discovering Music All Over Again
What’s surprised me lately is how much I’m rediscovering songs I once took for granted. Music I might have heard in passing when I was younger — songs that were just “background noise” at the time — now seem richer, more meaningful. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s perspective, or maybe I’m just finally taking the time to really listen.
That’s what this site is all about — a musical journey of rediscovery. It’s a place to explore the songs and artists that shaped me, to dig into the music I missed along the way, and to share those discoveries with anyone who’s ever had a song stop them in their tracks and make them say, “Wow, how did I overlook this before?”
So whether you’re a lifelong music lover or someone just beginning to reconnect with the soundtrack of your life, welcome. Let’s listen, learn, and rediscover the joy of music — one song at a time.
